Description
Smally’s Biltong is a variety of dried, cured meat that originated in South Africa.
Although similar to beef jerky, biltong is a spiced, dried and cure selection of meats ranging from beef and game meats to fillets of ostrich from commercial farms and by no means the same as beef jerky. The word biltong is comprised of the Dutch word ‘bil’ (‘rump’) and ‘tong’ (‘strip’ or ‘tongue’). The key difference from jerky is that jerky is sliced before drying, whereas biltong, albeit tastes different and is produced differently, is dried and then sliced.
